Whether browsing the Salamanca Market in Hobart on Saturdays or the countless other regular meets around the areas, you’re bound to find a great deal on quality goods while supporting local stallholders.
Beautiful Beaches
Southern Tasmania has its fair share of stunning coastal areas, with beautiful beaches dotted around the regions – from the soft sands of the Tasman Peninsula, to Bruny Island. In addition to these coastal reserves, there’s plenty of great family beaches well within 30 minutes or less to the city such as Bellerive, Howrah, Opossum Bay, Lauderdale, Seven Mile Beach, Cremorne, Sandy Bay, Kingston and Blackmans Bay.
Quality Local Wineries
Tasmania is well known for it’s award-winning vineyards and wineries. It is home to many leading producers of premium cool climate wines, such as the Moorilla Estate Winery in Berriedale and Bruny Island Premium Wines from just south of Hobart. On the Eastern Shore is the Coal River Valley winery trail with over 10 prominent vineyards all within close proximity.
Hobart’s Eastern Shore is known for its views, beaches, suburban shopping and is host to Hobart’s International Airport and International Cricket and AFL Ground – Blundstone Arena.
Hobart is linked to the Eastern Shore via the Tasman and Bowen bridges. This region has some of the best views in Hobart taking in the city and mountain vistas which are spectacular especially as the sun sets. Several suburbs in the area feature in Australia’s Top 30 suburbs for family living including the beachside suburb of Lauderdale at #3 on the list. The Eastern shore is made up of a mix of residential areas, beachside living, vineyard and winery areas, coastal reserves and several large shopping centres including Eastlands (Tasmania’s largest shopping centre) and also the Cambridge Park Homemaker Complex.
Aside from Blundstone arena there are also many of the states major sporting complexes representing soccer, archery, equestrian, and golf, plus several notable yacht clubs and marinas in Bellerive and Lindisfarne.
A tour through the Coal River Valley region will find some of the best wine tasting in Tasmania, culminating in a visit to the historic town of Richmond.
Food and entertainment precincts are more spread out than in Hobart, with Rosny Park being one of the focal points due to the combination of shopping, food and Village Cinemas. In addition there are many local bistros and restaurants dotted through the suburbs.
Popular events on the Eastern Shore include the annual Seafarers festival and Clarence Jazz festival, with the historic Rosny Barn also being used as a popular destination for many events such as the Festival of Voices, the Barn Market and others.
